Anna Cohen

Human Rights & Democracy

Anna Cohen is a fall 2022 Human Rights and Democracy intern at the McCain Institute at Arizona State University. She is a current junior at Scripps College in the Claremont Consortium, studying Politics and Public Policy with a regional focus on sub-Saharan Africa and a topical concentration in migration and development.

Anna recently completed the United States Department of State Critical Language Scholarship for Swahili, through which she learned a collegiate year of Swahili over eight weeks. She has begun using Swahili to work with refugee communities in her home city of Tucson, AZ. Anna intends to use Swahili as a tool to conduct research and work in East Africa.

Over the past two years, Anna has been heavily involved in educational enrichment programming for low-income youth. She directed a program focused on educational equity for low-income youth from Cambridge, MA, last summer through Harvard College.

As a student at the Claremont Consortium, Anna co-leads the consortium’s outdoors club and is reviving its Swing Dance organization. In her free time, you can find Anna dancing to throwback music, hiking, or spending time with friends.
