Human Rights & Democracy
Anna Cohen is a spring 2023 Human Rights & Democracy junior fellow at the McCain Institute at Arizona State University. She is a current junior at Scripps College in the Claremont Consortium, studying politics with a regional focus on sub-Saharan Africa and a topical concentration in human rights and development.
Anna recently completed the United States Department of State Critical Language Scholarship for Swahili, through which she learned a collegiate year of Swahili over eight weeks. She has begun using Swahili to work with refugee communities in her home city of Tucson, Ariz. Anna intends to use Swahili and French, which she is also studying, as tools to conduct research and work in Central and East Africa.
As a student at the Claremont Consortium, Anna co-leads the consortium’s outdoors club and is starting a chapter of the DC Student Consortium on Women, Peace, and Security. In her free time, you can find Anna dancing to throwback music, hiking, or spending time with friends.
