May Soe Min

American Democracy Junior Fellow

May Soe Min is a senior at the University of Maryland pursuing a B.A. in International Relations with dual minors in History and International Development and Conflict Management. Driven by her background as a first-generation Burmese American, May is committed to understanding and advancing global human rights. 

Her professional history prior to joining the American Democracy team at the McCain Institute includes working for the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the U.S. House of Representatives, and the International Rescue Committee. May spent a semester abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark, studying international refugee law and hybrid warfare as a Benjamin A. Gilman scholar. 

Upon completion of her undergraduate degree, May will be pursuing a Master’s in International Affairs and joining the American foreign service as a 2025 Thomas R. Pickering fellow. 

In her free time, May enjoys traveling, discovering new restaurants, and talking non-stop about her cat, Honey.
