Chief Operating Officer
As the Chief Operating Officer of the McCain Institute at Arizona State University, Betsy oversees the day-to-day management of the Institute. She provides operational and financial direction and guidance to the full range of programs and activities to enhance and ensure strategic alignment with the Institute’s mission and values.
A decisive, empathetic, and growth-minded leader, Betsy is dedicated to the team of 30 she serves. She has managed change over the last 7 years and mapped a path to stability and growth with a focus on operational excellence and fiscal responsibility. She prioritizes maintaining a positive organizational culture, staff development, equity, and retention.
She brings 3 decades of experience to the McCain Institute. Prior to joining in 2017, Betsy held leadership roles in the non-profit and political sectors, served as executive director for the March of Dimes, and executive director of The President’s Dinner Committee. She has also held senior roles in health care and education over the course of her career.
Betsy is a certified Hospice Care volunteer with more than 10 years of service under her belt. But despite her many achievements, she considers her most important life’s work raising her two children, Catherine and Corbett. Betsy has lived all over the U.S. and abroad. From Texas to California, Costa Rica to Washington, D.C., she considers many places home.
A graduate of the University of Southern California, Betsy holds a bachelor of arts degree in International Relations.
