Conversation & Cocktails was a summer series of guided conversations led by The McCain Institute’s directors on topics related to the Institute’s flagship programs: Humanitarian Action, Democratic Republic of the Congo elections, Human Rights and Democracy, and Rule of Law and Governance.
This series offered mid-level professionals the opportunity to network and develop a knowledge base on issues such as authoritarian threats to democracy, rule of law in developing countries and humanitarian action.
May 18, 2016: Humanitarian Action
Human Trafficking Advisory Council Chair Mrs. Cindy McCain and Executive Director Ambassador Kurt Volker discussed the realities of human trafficking in the United States and The McCain Institute’s ongoing efforts to eradicate this horrific crime. According to Thorn, 325,000 children are at risk for becoming victims of sexual exploitation in the United States and the International Labour Organization states that human trafficking creates a $150 billion dollar industry worldwide.
