The McCain Institute warmly welcomed President Ilir Meta of Albania for a two-hour visit early afternoon on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. The Institute’s executive director, Ambassador Kurt Volker, Ambassador Clint Williamson, and Ambassador Mike Polt joined with ASU’s Anne Simmons-Benton to engage President Meta and his top advisors.
The discussion centered on relationship building, and on concrete actions to advance security, human rights and economic opportunity in Europe and NATO.
President Meta expressed his gratitude and admiration for John McCain, and how he draws inspiration by the values, public service and defense of freedom he embodied.
Albanian Edlira Gjoni, an Institute next generation leader, continues her work to strengthen both youth and women’s leadership potential in not only Albania, but in the rest of the Western Balkans region. Part of her training last year included several months working in the office of Nashville mayor, David Briley.
