McCain Institute Hosts CBS News’ Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan at 2023 Sedona Forum

CBS News’ Margaret Brennan interviewed U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema at the McCain Institute’s 2023 Sedona Forum in Ariz.

SEDONA, Ariz. (May 7, 2023) — At the McCain Institute’s 2023 Sedona Forum, CBS News’ Face the Nation Moderator and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Margaret Brennan interviewed U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.). The 40-minute panel, entitled: “Elevating Political Discourse, Finding Lasting Solutions & Renewing American Confidence in Democracy” covered topics ranging from democracy and partisanship to the debt ceiling and immigration. Senator John McCain was the record holder for guest appearances on Face the Nation, joining the show more than 100 times for his signature “straight talk.” CBS News served as the broadcast media partner for the McCain Institute’s 10th annual Sedona Forum.

“It’s so great to be at a forum that celebrates so much of what Senator McCain stood for, which is straight talk,” said CBS News’ Face the Nation Moderator and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Margaret Brennan. “We do that on Face the Nation every Sunday and we looked at the records, and in the 69 year history, John McCain had the top number of appearances on the broadcast 112 times.”

“The last floor speech that Senator McCain gave, he talked about the concern he had with the ‘partisanship at every cost mentality’ that had taken over Congress and much of our political system…” said U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.). “In his decades of service, as you mentioned, he was a man of strong opinions, often voted with his party but was unafraid to stand alone and break with his party when he thought he was doing something right. But he always did it with dignity and honor and respect of others.”

Established by Senator John McCain, the Sedona Forum is held each spring to advance the mission of the McCain Institute – fighting for democracy, human dignity, and security. As the McCain Institute’s signature annual event, the forum provides a unique opportunity for the United States and world leaders to have informal, face-to-face discussions about real solutions to the problems facing our world today. This year’s theme, “Indispensable Power,” examined the diplomatic, military, and economic means employed to protect democracy, human rights, and the global competitive edge. Panels featured lawmakers, journalists, military leaders, business executives, and more. To learn more, visit TheSedonaForum.org.
