Chairperson, Foundation for Encouragement of Social Contribution
Akie Abe is the widow of the late former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe. Born in Tokyo, she began her professional career at Dentsu Inc. after graduating from Sacred Heart Professional Training College. She later earned a master’s degree in Social Design Studies from Rikkyo University in March 2011. Mrs. Abe married Mr. Shinzo Abe in 1987.
Throughout her public life, Mrs. Abe has been deeply engaged in humanitarian and social initiatives. She has supported educational projects such as the construction of Terakoya schools in Myanmar and has been actively involved in advancing education, women’s empowerment, and international cooperation. She also promotes regional revitalization and sustainable agriculture, including rice farming initiatives in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, her late husband’s hometown. Mrs. Abe currently serves as Chairperson of the Foundation for Encouragement of Social Contribution (FESCO), Senior Advisor to the World Women Entrepreneur, and Chairperson of the Myanmar Festival Association.
