Researcher and Human Rights Lawyer, National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine
Dr. Nataliia Hendel is a Ukrainian researcher and human rights lawyer with expertise in international humanitarian law (IHL), international criminal law, and experience in working on national and international projects.
Currently, she serves as a leading research fellow at the Institute of Information, Security and Law of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, the co-coordinator of the Platform for the Progressive Development of International Humanitarian Law within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and an IHL expert at the Inter-Agency Commission on the Application and Implementation of IHL in Ukraine within the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.
Prior to this, Nataliia was the head of the Centre for International Humanitarian Law at the Ukrainian Association of International Law (2023-2024), the research fellow at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights (2022-2024), a professor in the Department of International Law and Comparative Law at the International Humanitarian University (2021-2023), and an associate professor in the Department of International and European Law at the National University of ""Odesa Law Academy"" (2016-2021). She also served as the member of the Interdepartmental Commission on the Implementation of International Humanitarian Law of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine (2015-2017).
With a strong background in international humanitarian law and international criminal law, she is actively engaged in the implementation of international humanitarian law in Ukraine and in promoting knowledge among diverse target groups, in cooperation with a range of governmental and non-governmental stakeholders.
