Greetings from Ambassador Mark Green

Dear Friends and Followers of the McCain Institute—

These are obviously challenging times, both here in the U.S. and in many parts of the world. We are still in the throes of turning back the COVID-19 pandemic and dealing with the economic pain it has inflicted. Around the world, we see autocrats and dictators using the pandemic as cover for consolidating power and cracking down on human liberty.

While we may not yet have all the answers to these challenges, what is clear is the need for greater character-driven leadership, in America and around the world. Advancing that leadership is the core mission of the McCain Institute.

I’m truly honored to join the Institute as its new executive director. I deeply appreciate the warm welcome I’ve received from Cindy McCain, the Institute’s great staff and our board of trustees, from ASU President Michael Crow and the larger ASU team, and so many of you.

My plan is for the Institute to advance character-driven leadership in three broad ways. First, through strong, clear messaging that illustrates both the meaning of character-driven leadership and its importance in today’s world. Second, through impactful programs that show character-driven leadership in action and demonstrate how such leadership can help America and her allies meet important challenges. And third, through our leadership training and development programs aimed at expanding the ranks of character-driven leaders at home and abroad.

We’ll need your help and support if we’re going to fulfill our potential as an organization and, more importantly, live up to the legacy that John McCain left to all of us. I hope you’ll follow our work through this newsletter, our newsfeed, and blog, on our social media channels, and within the McCain Alumni Club. Please feel free to write to us at [email protected] with your ideas and feedback.

The McCain Institute isn’t merely an office or an organization, it’s a vast network of patriots who believe that leadership matters, principles matter, and that America, working with like-minded allies, must help lead this world to a brighter future.

Our namesake put it best: “We will not thrive in a world where our leadership and ideals are absent. We wouldn’t deserve to.” We couldn’t agree more.

Sincerely yours,

Mark Green
Executive Director
