McCain Global Leaders Alumni Statement on Ukraine

On February 24, 2024, we solemnly marked two years of Russia’s brutal full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and ten years since Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea.

As McCain Global Leaders, we express condemnation in the strongest possible terms of Russia’s brutal and unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine.

Ukraine’s men and women have demonstrated remarkable courage and fierce determination in defending their freedom, democracy and the international rules-based order.

Thousands of Ukrainian civilians have been killed and injured, millions have been displaced, and damage to country’s critical infrastructure will take years to build.

We call on the international community to investigate all war crimes committed by Russia’s occupational forces in Ukraine. Russia and the Kremlin regime must be held accountable for all war crimes and violations and abuses of human rights and international humanitarian law.

We strongly support the efforts of the Western Allies and global partners in holding accountable all actors who are facilitating Russia’s war and amplifying Russia’s disinformation.

We remain committed to continuing the work of Senator John McCain- standing up against authoritarianism and supporting Ukraine’s existential right for freedom, sovereignty and democracy.

We stay united in our resolve.
