Major Lance Mogard began his national security career in 2008 with the United States Secret Service (USSS). There he served as both a Middle East Analyst and Counterterrorism Analyst in the Protective Intelligence and Assessment Division. While he served in this capacity, Lance also pursued a graduate degree program at the Institute of World Politics (IWP) in Washington, DC. This afforded him the opportunity to earn a commission in the United States Army through a partnership with the Georgetown University Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC).

At the conclusion of his graduate coursework in 2010, Lance was commissioned as a Cavalry Officer and accessed into the active duty Army. After completing the Armor Officer Basic Course, the Army Reconnaissance Course, and Ranger School, Lance was assigned to 4th Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. There he served as a Platoon Leader, with a rotation to Afghanistan during OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, and then later as a Squadron Assistant Operations Officer and Battalion S2.

In 2014, upon promotion to Captain, Lance moved to the Military Intelligence (MI) Branch and completed the MI Captain’s Career Course. His first assignment as an MI officer was with the 704th MI Brigade at Fort Meade, Maryland. There he served as a Battalion Assistant Operations Officer and Company Commander.

From 2017-2019, Lance completed assessment, selection, and a specialized training course for a United States Special Operations Command (USASOC) unit. Since then, Lance has served as an Assistant Operations Officer, Company Executive Officer, Company Commander, deployed Joint Task Force J3, and Battalion Operations Officer within the Special Operations community and has had multiple overseas deployments.

Lance holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Iowa (2006) and Master’s degrees from the Institute of World Politics (2010) and the U.S. Naval War College (2022).

Lance lives in Alexandria, Virginia and in his free time he enjoys ultra-endurance events, any activity in the mountains, and spending time with his kids Gia (10) and Luca (7).
