Associate Director for Foreign Policy, Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP)
Channing Lee is Associate Director for Foreign Policy at the Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP), a non-profit initiative tasked with making recommendations for the United States and its allies and partners on winning the global techno-economic competition. In this role, she oversees the Asia portfolio and leads engagement with Indo-Pacific partners, including Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, India, Australia, and the Philippines. She also co-hosts 'Strait Forward,' an SCSP podcast about Taiwan, the island at the center of technological innovation and the global fight for democracy. Previously, Channing worked at the Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET), where she conducted Chinese- and English-language research on PRC science and technology planning, the proliferation of PRC-based AI companies in Southeast Asia, and U.S. investment in Chinese AI companies. She sits on the Executive Board of the Orange County Debate League, a middle and high school debate league serving schools in and around her hometown of Orange County, CA. Her writing has appeared in Foreign Policy, Nikkei Asia, and elsewhere, and she is fluent in Mandarin and Spanish. She holds an MA in security studies and BSFS in international politics from Georgetown University.
