Elmas Hasanovikj

Elmas Hasanovikj works as an advisor for defense policy in the Cabinet of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of North Macedonia. He holds a B.S. in criminology from the Faculty of Security at Skopje University. He is a Fulbright scholar, and specialized in the field of international studies and nuclear nonproliferation science and policy. He has expertise in government policy, international security, and arms control, with a focus on Russian policy towards the Balkans, nuclear non-proliferation, as well as a nuanced understanding of the politico-security situation in the Balkans. In 2020, the NATO Liaison Office in Skopje awarded him with a Gratitude Letter and Certificate of Appreciation for his contribution to the integration of the Republic of North Macedonia into NATO. Elmas has interned at Duke’s Center for International Development and at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He is a member of the George C. Marshall alumni network, Fullbright Alumni network, and the European Democracy Youth Network. In 2021, he was selected as a Young Leader in the Bled Strategic Forum, New Security Leader of the Warsaw Security Forum, and Ambassador of the European Democracy Youth Network. In 2022, Elmas was selected for the NATO 2030 Global Fellowship.
