Modou Sowe is currently the National Youth Coordinator of the National Organization of Farmer Associations of The Gambia and volunteers as the Secretary General of the National Livestock Owners Association. As the National Youth Coordinator, Sowe leads youth advocacy, lobbying efforts, and policy dialogue to enhance youth participation in agricultural production. As Secretary General, he leads the coordination of various committee decisions, translating these decisions and policies into realities. Sowe seeks to build competent leadership and professional skills to support women and youth in the agricultural value chain for sustainable development while indirectly supporting the government’s efforts to address its challenges of food insecurity, high dependency ratio, and the unemployment of women and youth.
Cattle farmers and workers in the Gambia’s livestock markets are among some of the most at-risk individuals for contracting the virus. As a recipient of the COVID-19 In The Arena Grant, Sowe will be able to provide them with sanitation materials and clean drinking water.
