Former Chief of Staff to President George H.W. Bush Joins McCain Institute’s Authors & Insights Book Talk Series

Jean Becker and Jon Decker Authors and Insights event

WASHINGTON, DC (August 31, 2021) The McCain Institute for International Leadership at Arizona State University (ASU) will host former Chief of Staff to President George H.W. Bush Jean Becker in the next installment of the Institute’s Authors & Insights Book Talk Series.

On Tuesday, September 14, Becker will join Gray Television’s White House Correspondent and McCain Institute Media Fellow Jon Decker to discuss Becker’s book, “The Man I Knew: The Amazing Story of George H.W. Bush’s Post-Presidency,” a vibrant behind-the-scenes look into the ups and downs of heading up the office of a former president by one of the people who knew him best.

“Most Americans have a vivid image of President George H.W. Bush the politician, but Becker’s work really brings to life President George H.W. Bush the man,” said Jon Decker, White House Correspondent for Gray Television and McCain Institute Media Fellow. “Her work is a fascinating look at an American original’s transition from President to private citizen.”

Becker was President Bush’s chief of staff for nearly 25 years, from March 1994 until his death on November 30, 2018.

Decker is the White House correspondent and senior national editor for Gray Television and has been a member of the White House Press Corps since 1995. In 2015, he was elected by his colleagues to the Board of the White House Correspondents’ Association. Decker serves on the faculty of Georgetown University and the UCLA School of Law where he is an adjunct professor.

The McCain Institute invites all to join the Authors & Insights Book Talk Series on Tuesday, September 14, at 12 p.m. ET. More information, including the link to register, can be found on the McCain Institute Events page. Viewers will have a chance to ask Becker questions about her book, career and current events. Two lucky attendees will receive copies of “The Man I Knew: The Amazing Story of George H.W. Bush’s Post-Presidency.”
