SEDONA, Ariz. (April 25, 2023) — The McCain Institute at Arizona State University (ASU) today announced the 2023 Sedona Forum will take place May 5 – 6 in Sedona, Ariz., with CBS News serving as a broadcast media partner and POLITICO serving as a digital media partner. Key speakers will include U.S. Senators Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.), Governor Katie Hobbs, and U.S. Indo-Pacific Commander Admiral John C. Aquilino. Additional speakers and programming will be announced closer to the event.

“As we face increasingly complex challenges and threats to democracy around the globe, this year’s convening of the Sedona Forum comes at a critical time. Now in our 10th year, the theme for this year’s Sedona Forum reflects Senator John McCain’s belief that America is an indispensable power in the world,” said McCain Institute Executive Director Dr. Evelyn Farkas. “We are proud to collaborate with CBS News and POLITICO as this year’s media partners, and we look forward to convening a diverse roster of top-tier speakers and newsmakers from around the world and across the political spectrum.”

Moderators from CBS News will include Face the Nation Moderator and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Margaret Brennan and Chief Washington Correspondent and host of “The Takeout” podcast Major Garrett. Moderators from POLITICO will include National Security Reporter Alex Ward, author of POLITICO’S National Security Daily newsletter, and White House Correspondent Eugene Daniels, co-author of POLITICO’s Playbook newsletter.

“Senator John McCain was a Washington institution during his years in the Senate, appearing on ‘Face the Nation’ more times than any other guest in our 68-year history,” said Executive Producer of ‘Face the Nation’ and Executive Editor for Politics at CBS News Mary Hager. “We at CBS News are honored to be a media partner of this year’s Sedona Forum, where we can continue the tradition of straight talk.”

“POLITICO is thrilled to partner with The McCain Institute for their 2023 Sedona Forum as they facilitate thought-provoking conversations on the most pressing issues around the world,” said Editor-in-Chief of POLITICO, Matt Kaminski. “Our global newsroom is committed to delivering reliable and nonpartisan journalism that engages and informs a global citizenry. We look forward to collaborating with The McCain Institute to continue that effort.”

Established by Senator John McCain, the Sedona Forum is held each spring to advance the mission of the McCain Institute – fighting for democracy, human dignity, and security. As the McCain Institute’s signature annual event, the forum provides a unique opportunity for the United States and world leaders to have informal, face-to-face discussions about real solutions to the problems facing our world today. This year’s theme, “Indispensable Power,” will examine the diplomatic, military, and economic means employed to protect democracy, human rights, and the global competitive edge. Panels will feature lawmakers, journalists, military leaders, business executives, and more.

Additional programming details will be released prior to the 2023 Sedona Forum. Most panels will be available to watch via livestream. To learn more about the event and register for the livestream, visit TheSedonaForum.org.
