Elizabeth Economy is the Hargrove Senior Fellow and Co-chair of the Program on the US, China, and the World at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. From 2021 to 2023, she served as the senior advisor for China to the Secretary of Commerce. Economy was previously at the Council on Foreign Relations, where she served as the C.V. Starr Senior Fellow and director for Asia Studies for over a decade. An acclaimed expert on Chinese domestic and foreign policy, Economy is the award-winning author of four books and two edited volumes. Her most recent book is The World According to China (Polity 2022). She is a member of Board of Directors of Swarthmore College, the National Endowment for Democracy, and the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. She is also a member of the Aspen Strategy Group and Council on Foreign Relations and serves as the East Asia book reviewer for the journal Foreign Affairs.
