WASHINGTON, DC (July 15, 2021) The McCain Institute for International Leadership is honored to welcome former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Theresa May in the second installment of the Conversations with Secretary Esperseries to discuss the state of the transatlantic alliance.
On Thursday, July 22, the Right Honourable May will join McCain Institute John S. McCain Distinguished Fellow and former United States Secretary of Defense Dr. Mark T. Esper for a wide-ranging conversation on the U.S.-U.K. Special Relationship, the state of and future of NATO, and the challenges that both nations and the wider alliance face from all corners of the world.
This event is a unique chance to hear a frank dialogue between a former world leader and the former head of America’s armed forces. Among many topics, former Prime Minister May and former Secretary Esper will discuss the ongoing challenges presented by Russia and China, political cohesion within NATO, and what their outlooks are for the immediate, midrange and longterm future of the Special Relationship.

This event will be the second installment of the McCain Institute’s new series Conversations with Secretary Esper, which seeks to convene experts for a series of conversations related to the future of NATO and how it positions itself to tackle some of the most pressing challenges of our time – a rising China, increasing international authoritarianism, the global plague of disinformation, etc.
